phrich Fil-Am high school club steps up to help LA fire survivors

Embodying the Filipino spirit of bayanihan, the Filipino Club at La Cañada High School (LCHS) in La Cañada Flintridge in Los Angeles County has stepped up to help communities affected by the LA fires. 

Members of the Filipino Club are helping displaced families through their donation drive and volunteer recruitment campaign to support relief efforts.

“We are constantly receiving different volunteer opportunities around the Pasadena region,” the club wrote in their Instagram post.

Volunteers are needed to sort and organize donated items and help distribute essentials to affected areas, according to the club.

Gorman will become chairman on Jan. 2, 2025. He will succeed Mark Parker, who is leaving after serving on Disney’s board for nine years.

Interested volunteers can message them on Instagram or via email and check the FAQ posted on their social media page.

In their FAQ, the Filipino Club said children as young as 5-years-old have volunteered to help with relief efforts.

“However, if the child is volunteering, they must be able to wear an N95 mask,” the club stated.

The city of La Cañada Flintridge, where the high school is located, is about six miles from the Eaton fire in Altadena and not far from the evacuation center in Pasadena.

The Filipino Club has also sent representatives to other organizations like the Eaton Fire Relief 2025 to help with cleanup and distribution of supplies. 

They expressed gratitude to all those who volunteered and donated, writing in a social media post, “We’re so thankful for all the first responders and community members that have helped out during these tough times.”

As part of their “Everything Drive” initiative, the club has also been delivering essentials like food, clothing and blankets to the survivors.

“We received notice that many locations around the affected areas of the Eaton Fire, such as the Rose Bowl, are in need of donations of various items,” wrote the club, which has posted their donation drop-off locations. 

It’s not the first time the club has stepped up to help communities in need.

Last year, they launched “Project Pasalubong” to support fellow Filipinos facing calamities in the Philippines.
